After being busy at work, I've finally committed the driver for the DECchip 21272 Core Logic chipset I2C controller, which is the built-in bit-bang i²c controller on my DS20L. The dmesg is now (it now has 2GB memory and a 3X-KZPEA-DB dual-SCSI card):
